Crappy. How did your backups get lost? Were they lost by your hosting company too? It's literally like losing a chunk of one's own life, which is a tragedy considering all the stuff you went through and documented.

Would you ever consider using Wordpress instead of Movable Type? I was a die-hard MT user until they came out with their ridiculous licencing agreement when they were bought out by Six Apart. Now that I've switched, I find that Wordpress is a much superior publishing platform. After a server wipe may be the right time to try it out.

Oh.. thats real sad, enjoy your trek though... and good luck for starting this place back from scratch.

I came across your blog a few months ago as I was searching for a "peasant shirt".....one of your first entries contained a reference to a peasant shirt which popped you up in my search. I started reading your blog and was hooked! I find you to be very entertaining!! I'm married to a Filipino man so I relate to all of the comments you make about how your parents view degrees, etc. Anyway, I had only made it to April 2004 when the server crashed so I have many unanswered questions!! The three most notable are:

1) what was living in the walls of your rental home in your college town? There was bumping and scratching all hours of the day and night and the landlord was saying it was nothing

2) Did you ever receive your cheesecake or certificate for a free cheesecake?

3) Did anything ever happen between you and Shirley? What a pretty girl! In the pictures of the two of you trying the Bertie Bott every flavor beans there seemed to be a bit of chemistry between the two of you....anything?

Can't wait!

Oh, jeez, Jason. That's horrible; I could never be so sanguine about it. I'm just thinking about all that was lost -- the raw and honest writing about everything you've been through these past few years, the Doodle Duels...I'm more upset about it than you are, I guess.

ummmmmmmm so what will happen to my blog? do i get a new one? grr
